Historical Note

Don Schanche, Jr. is an alumnus of the University of Georgia. He graduated in 1979 and began working as a journalist for The Augusta Chronicle. He has worked for the Macon Telegraph, The Union-Recorder of Milledgeville, and most recently, The Associated Press in Atlanta. While serving as a Milledgeville correspondent for The Telegraph in 1982, Schanche was assigned to cover Central State Hospital, which housed about 3,000 patients and residents.
